VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MENTAL HEALTH COMMITTEE - BY 9/5

The Township has openings on the Mental Health Committee and Senior & Disability Services Committee. Each committee meets once per month for 8-9 times/year. The Board relies on River Forest resident volunteers to evaluate grants and programming in each respective area. Interested in helping us by serving on the committee for a 3-year term beginning September 2025? Contact Township Supervisor John Becvar (Supervisor@RiverForestTownship.org).

ZUMBA FOR OLDER ADULTS - BEGINNING 9/8

The Township is offering complimentary Zumba classes for older adults on Mondays at 9:30AM beginning on September 8th through November 3rd (no class on October 13). We have room for up to 25 adults - to register please call Yazmin at (708) 725 9129. In addition to Zumba, the Township offers most weeks complimentary chess instruction and mahjong instruction. We will be re-starting our complimentary Pickleball instruction in the fall and hoping to introduce a weekday walking track option for older adults. LEMONAID RETURNS TO BONNIE BRAE - 9/11

The 24th Annual LemonAid event will take place on Thursday, September 11th from 3-7PM on the 700 Block of Bonnie Brae. Established in 2002 in memory of the September 11th attacks, the mission is to turn lemonADE into lemonAID by raising awareness and funds for local charities that serve children. Through your generous support, LemonAid has raised over $676,000 for local charities that serve children. This year the two deserving charities are Opportunity Knocks and Thrive Counseling Center. Come on out for a full line-up of fabulous local entertainment, tasty treats and of course, plenty of ice cold lemonade! The Township is proud to be a multi-year sponsor of the event and is in the process of incorporating the event into our Township programming.

NAMI’S NEXT PRACTICAL FAMILY SKILLS WORKSHOP - 9/13

Practical Family Skills is for family members of those living with a mental health condition. Our Township partner, NAMI Metro Suburban, is hosting an event on Saturday, September 13, at their Drop-In Center at 814 Harrison St., Oak Park. Participants learn and practice skills that help strengthen the relationship and encourage recovery oriented activities, including communication skills, collaboration and self-regulation. SUICIDE PREVENTION SUMMIT - 9/19

September is Suicide Prevention Month. You are invited to join professionals from across Illinois and beyond for the 2025 Suicide Prevention Summit, held in person at the Hyatt Lodge Conference Center in Oak Brook on Friday, September 19. This year’s theme, “Healing Together: Mental Health, Community, and Connection,” reflects our deep commitment to building collaborative, compassionate, and culturally responsive strategies to reduce suicide and promote well-being for all. The summit will convene professionals, community members, and individuals with lived experience to engage in vital conversations and learning about suicide prevention. Learn more.
