PICKLEBALL RETURNS TO RFCCA BUILDING

River Forest Township is offering FREE pickleball classes once a month, October-March, for older adults who reside in River Forest at the River Forest Civic Center Authority building (8020 Madison Street). Pickleball has been called the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. over recent years and individuals 65 and older make up about 15% of all pickleball players. Pickleball helps improve your physical fitness, flexibility and balance and compared to many sports, is relatively easier on the joints. Advanced registration for each afternoon session along with a participation waiver is required. Register by emailing Seniors@RiverForestTownship.org.

PARENT POP-UP EVENT - OCTOBER 8

Please join the OPRFHS Counseling Division on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium for our presentation: College Planning for Families of Juniors: Class of 2027.This presentation will help you establish a college planning timetable and to-do list, identify and debunk myths about admission requirements, determine the right college fit for your student, understand the basics of financial aid, and assist you with navigating Schoolinks, our college and career planning platform.

Prior to the college planning session, please consider joining our Parent University Pop-Up session: Communicating with Adolescents and Teens…without Money, Magic, or Eye-Rolls from 5:30-6:15 p.m.  

All parents and guardians are invited, and light snacks will be served.  No need to pre-register.

OCTOBER IS DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The Township is partnering with OPRF Chamber of Commerce and OPT-CMHB to sponsor four events with guest speakers who will talk about the many benefits of employing individuals who are living with a disability. We hope you can join us and learn more about our community partners and their local employment programs.

1. October 9 at 12:30PM – Non Profit Affinity Group at Oak Park CRC

2. October 10 from 9-10:30AM – Women in Business at the Sheridan Nursing Home

3. October 14 from 5–7PM– Business After Hours – at Oak Leyden (320 Chicago Ave)

4. October 17 at 11:30A – Meet me For Lunch catered by Opportunity Knocks Catering

LEMONAID WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

River Forest Township was honored to continue our involvement in LemonAid and to help shepherd the transition to be an event organized by the greater River Forest community. The weather was perfect, and we had a huge turn-out at the 24th Annual LemonAid event that benefited Opportunity Knocks and Thrive Counseling Center. We are proud to see a future for LemonAid that inspires our community and shows our kids what it’s like to care for others.
