River Forest Township About

River Forest Civic Center Authority

The River Forest Civic Center Authority (RFCCA), established in 1984, is the owner and manager of the RFCCA Building at 8020 Madison Street, River Forest. The RFCCA was created so that River Forest could become eligible to obtain state funds for a new community center facility.

In 1989, the RFCCA received a $1.9 million grant from the State of Illinois, plus $633,333 in contributions from the River Forest Community Center, River Forest Township, and Village of River Forest, to purchase and renovate the building at 8020 Madison Street.

The state grant required a long-term, not-for-profit tenant with demonstrated financial stability, which would be responsible for utilities, maintenance, insurance, and minor repairs for the RFCCA Building. That tenant since 1993 has been the not-for-profit River Forest Community Center, which has a long-term lease to occupy the RFCCA Building and continues to cover the required cost of insuring, operating, and maintaining RFCCA Building.

The RFCCA has no authority to levy property taxes; hence, the RFCCA Building is not supported by property tax dollars. By statute, the RFCCA Board of Managers is the same as the River Forest Township Board of Trustees.

The RFCCA Board of Managers will meet the third Tuesday of each month except in January, February, April and December when it is a different Tuesday (i.e. the following upcoming dates in 2024: May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17, October 15, November 19, and December 10, 2024).

Meetings will follow the 6:00 p.m. meeting of the River Forest Township Board of Trustees. Meetings will take place by Zoom and at the River Forest Township offices, 2nd floor, River Forest Civic Center Authority Building, 8020 Madison Street, River Forest, IL 60305.

The Zoom invitation and the meeting agenda will be posted at least 48 hours in advance on this website (www.riverforesttownship.org), at the River Forest Civic Center Authority Building and the River Forest Public Library. This is also the case for any changes in time, date or location of the meetings scheduled above.
